The Academic band

Visual Loop Sampling and Facebook Live

I was talking yesterday with a podcast group thinking about vlogging. One subject that came up, but that might not make its way into their episode is the impact of Facebook Live and Instagram Stories trying to poach YouTube's hold on vlogging. Given that conversation and your recent music mixes, it seems worthwhile to share with you the video that the band Academic created, where they take advantage of the fact that there is a short delay on Facebook Live between when you record and when the video appears on the Facebook site. The band turned this delay into a visual and audio loop sampler.

We rearranged each instrument on “Bear Claws” to fit Facebook Live’s delay, with each loop getting more complex, adding instruments, rhythms, and melodies. Additionally, by projecting the video live from a soundstage we created an infinite tunnel consisting of all the previously recorded loops.
